Karen Schrader
How and/or Why did you get started in shooting sports?
I had shot with my husband casually for several years, but never took it very seriously. That is until our home was broken into. In 2015, we came home to a Goldilocks situation and I realize quickly that I couldn’t rely on the sheriff to get there in time if there were a real life or death emergency. It took him 28 minutes. I would have been dead in less time than that. This started my desire to learn to shoot. Being competitive by nature, shooting sports were a natural progression.
Why are you passionate about working for SLG2:
I love the feeling of empowerment I get from the shooting sports, and from the sisterhood I feel through shooting sports. I want to pass that along to other women so they can be empowered, too!
When not shooting, what do you love to do:
I train my Arabian horses for endurance rides and I read. As time allows, I bake sourdough bread, make jellies and jams, and sell my goods at the local farmer’s market. I also lead the music at my church. And I work for the Justice of the Peace in my county.
