Amy Crooks

About Amy:

I am currently a Registered Nurse on the Dementia Unit at one of the local nursing homes. I have worked at the nursing home for the past 11 years. My first job growing up (during middle/high school) was working at an archery retail shop. I have been married to my wonderful husband (Josh) for 6 years and we have two beautiful boys. My oldest is 4 ½ (Tyler) and my youngest is 6 months (Nathan). I enjoy hunting, traveling, hiking, boating, four wheeling, crafting (ie. Scrapbooking or anything with photos).

How did you get involved in Shooting or the Outdoors?

I was raised in a family with many generations of hunters. My parents introduced my sister and I to hunting/fishing at a very young age. When I started shooting, I had a little recurve bow my parents gave me and remember participating in many 3D shoots with my parents and family friends. Some of the best memories I have growing up are when my parents would set my sister and I in ground blinds together on our family property while they went to their stand/blind to hunt. Once I began school though, I took a lot of time away from hunting to focus on my nursing career.

I love to help support and empower other women to become more active in hunting or shooting sports. I am typically the only girl within our “hunting crowd” and would love to be in a position where I can give other women more information about what is out there, and what might work for them. I would love to show other women how hunting continues to be an important part of my life and can easily fit into my busy schedule of being a mother, full time employee, and a homemaker. There is so much satisfaction in harvesting a beautiful animal (deer, bear, etc.) with my bow; I continue to work on precision, accuracy and confidence with my shooting.

Have you ever introduced other women/kids to Shooting or Hunting?

I have not personally introduced any other women into hunting or shooting. But I currently do have two different girlfriends that have become increasingly involved with hunting/shooting 3D shoots since I have begun five years ago. I do truly believe that they saw how much fun I was having with the sport and wanted to try it out as well. My 4 ½ year old is very interested in hunting, when asked he will tell anyone that when he gets big enough he would like to hunt turkeys, deer, and bear. He is already actively fishing with any chance he gets.
