Melanie is a firearms and archery instructor, team lead and Hunt Like A Girl Lead, she has been on the team since 2017.
How and/or why did you get started in shooting sports?
I was introduced to Pheasant hunting many years ago when I first moved to Colorado Springs. After that very 1st hunt, I was hooked! After a several years I had my own pack of German Shorthair Pointers and eventually became an upland bird hunting guide. I joined a trap league at a local outdoor shooting range to practice and improve my success in the field. To this day, of all the different shooting platforms, shooting trap is still my 1st love.
Why are you passionate about working for SLG2:
Working for Hunt Like a Girl I have had the opportunity to share my love for the shooting sports and hunting with others and give them a glimpse of something new. With Hunt Like a Girl, I have had the pleasure to take many new lady hunters in the field for the very 1st time. Showing them the love of hunting, hunting traditions, and just being in nature, and all it has to offer, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Traveling across the country with the Shoot Like a Girl mobile range has also been an amazing opportunity for me. I began shooting as a hunter. My journey in personal protection and as a firearms instructor came after I moved from the country to the city. Now, I travel all over the country introducing women, their families, and community’s firearm safety, personal safety, marksmanship fundamentals and archery. Introducing new shooters to the shooting sports and giving them the confidence they need to realize they CAN do it is so rewarding.
When not shooting, what do you love to do:
When I’m not shooting or hunting my days are filled with spending time with my wonderful husband, Darryl, and my 2-year-old energetic black labrador, Saber. We love to travel, jet ski, paddle board and entertain at our homes in Oklahoma and Arizona.
