Hitting Your Reset Button

[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1611629206900{border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]In a previous article you may remember a mention on “Hitting Your Reset Button”. In life this means so many things. At the start of a new year many of us decide on Resolutions or Changes. We want to reset behaviors to help us work towards being better people. Some of them are truly personal changes for the individual and some are changes for those around us. With all of the lists many of us make, I recommend adding improving our personal and families immediate and long-term safety to the list.

I am sure you are thinking, what do my personal resolution choices have to do with anything safety related. In the big picture, our physical and mental health play a role in all parts of our life. After this last year we can add our financial and maybe even spiritual health to that as well. I encourage you to make a resolution to hit your safety awareness reset button in 2021. When we are vulnerable, we are a target, therefore, when we are not vulnerable and appear in control and confident, we are less of a target.

How often do we allow ourselves to look vulnerable? Think for a minute, can you come up with three times just from today that you were vulnerable? There are so many places we put ourselves both physically and mentally that a simple “reset” of our awareness is a great foundation for staying safe.

The list of possibilities where we may find ourselves vulnerable is endless, from runners with headsets to shoppers with too many bags. What happens when we pull into our driveway, our carport or garage and feel like we are in our “safe” place. Are you still aware or have you slipped into complacency because of familiarity or comfort?

Let’s take a minute and tie all of this back to “Hitting Your Reset Button”. What if every time your scenery or activity changed you took a brief minute and “Reset Your Awareness”? What does that even mean…well its simple, it means that at every change you reassess, take a quick inventory of what is going on around you and reset. Reset your thoughts, your plan and potentially even the process in which you will choose to protect yourself. Its about pre thinking not over thinking, it’s about being Confident in your decision that you have got this and have thought through your next steps. It’s not about paranoia. It is about awareness.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1611973276563{padding-right: 1px !important;padding-left: 1px !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1611973111103{background-color: #11327a !important;}”]

Were you vulnerable today?

When you were helping your children into the car and in their car seats or buckling their seat belts?

Think, who was in the car right next to you  or across from you?

Think, what can I do to stay situationally aware?

When you were leaving your quiet and half staffed, due to COVID guidelines, office building.

Think, who saw you wandering out of your office to the elevator one hand full with your coat and briefcase and the other with your cellphone…you were steadily texting as you got on the elevator and walked in the parking deck three rows over to your car?

Think, did you only look up to make sure you were heading in the right direction. What did you see or better yet, what did you miss?

When you run into the post office to check your PO Box at 8:30pm., and there is one other car parked in the parking lot?

Think, did you notice in the rows of PO Boxes, was anyone else there?

Think, you were looking around and had your head on a swivel going into your post office, but once you had your mail in hand and head down looking at the new catalogs, magazines and even bills, what did you miss?

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Resetting your Awareness.

Starting now work a new resolution into your list of healthier, happier and stronger. Add being safer to that list, and with every change work to Reset Your Awareness.

We would like to thank Chuck Haggard of Agile/Training and Consulting for spending some time with a few on our Instructor Staff. We learned this phrase from him and the concept, even though we wanted to all believe we were already doing it, was a reinforcement on how we can be better stewards for our personal and family’s safety and even yours by sharing what we learned and Resetting our own Awareness.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
