Letters to Shoot Like A Girl Hi Karen, Greetings "Shoot Like A Girl!" I am a 52 year old "girl" that only last year discovered the excitiment of hunting with a compound bow. My first bow hunt was the most exhilerating experience of my life and I would highly encourage women of all ages to taste and see what I mean. On my first bow hunt, I shot two does on the same day. The first kill, was at daylight from a tree stand at about 12 yards. The second kill was early evening. I shot it between the eyes at 10 yards from my tree stand. (Of course I meant too! It was getting dark and I didn't want to have to trail it! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) I figured since my guide took me back to a stand that evening, it was a common thing to hunt and kill two deer on the same day. I later learned, that it is NOT a common thing to do! What a thrill for me to be the only "guy" in camp to have killed anything on that hunt. And then for me to get two in one day! You can imagine the stories that went around the campfire about how I shot one between the eyes! For me, shooting the compound bow was a very easy and natural thing. It is a proven fact that women are generally better shots than men and I am proud to keep that fact alive and well in my deer camp! I am proud to say that I "Shoot Like A Girl!" Kim Gentry, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Pastors Wife, Deer Hunter, etc. etc. etc. P.S. I was using a borrowed Bear Youth Bow with a 42lb. pull. I don't know if you remeber me, I was at Metropolis, IL on Sunday. You helped me with several bows. We ordered one a few weeks ago.. I got it yesterday. I got a Mathews DXT, 50 lb. with new arrows and new wrist release. I really appreciated your help. I just wanted to Thank you and tell I really enjoyed the help.. Keep Shooting Like A Girl... Have a great day.. Laura Gillipie Hey! This is Amber Reeves! I met you at the deer expo Sat! I wanted to let you know that I bought a compound bow! Its a BEAR TRUTH 2! I have been shooting it a lot and I am really loving it! I am getting better every time I practice! I want to thank you for your time and your help! Thanks, Amber Reeves Karen: I visited your booth at the Deer & Turkey Hunting Expo in Birmingham, Alabama this past Saturday, and I just wanted to say thank you. The woman that helped me was great. I don't remember her name, but she had dark, shoulder-length curly hair. She asked me if I wanted to shoot, and I've only hunted with a rifle, firearm, and a cross-bow before, and I told her I had never shot a bow before. She said that was o.k. and she would walk me through it. She was very helpful and I learned a lot. I was going to try shooting upstairs at the Mark's booth, but it was run by men, and I've only had bad experiences in dealing with men when it comes to not knowing something about hunting. But she didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing, she told me everyone had to learn how at some point, which made me feel a lot better. I've become addicted, just off of shooting three bows! I just wanted to thank you, and your staff at the show for making me feel welcome & helping me to learn how to shoot a bow. I know I will be shooting a lot more in the future! But thank you again! I love what your business stands for, and that it recognizes women shooters! Have a great day! ps. I want everyone to know how much your company helped me! I should be getting the Bowtec Diamond Razor Edge for my birthday ((as soon as I can talk the hubby into it)) lol :) How I wish we had a service like you’re in our area. I am a father of 8 children all of which are active shooters and getting the girls outfitted can be a big challenge. Particularly for some of the reasons you mentioned on your website. For some strange reason, women and girls just don’t get the same attention when I take them to the “Pro-Shop” for help. I am a Level Two Certified Instructor, JOAD coach and 4H Archery coach who specializes in working with youth under the age 18. I advise over 30 students each quarter when it comes to selecting equipment. But when they return from the shop….the end up with “whatever” the “PRO” had to sell them. My own girls happen to be among the top shooters in state in their divisions however they are shooting some of the low end equipment because the Pro-Shops don’t take them serious. I can really relate to your story. Seems that the young men have no trouble picking up a sponsor either….but the girls are often overlooked….what a shame. And what a loss of opportunity for promoting the sport to other young lady’s and women. Keep up the good work Karen and the best of luck to you in your ventures. Will Zeober MET, CD Design Engineer Patricia Copley Dear Karen: I just wanted to thank you for thinking of the women at the Las Vegas Championship. It really meant a lot to me and my family that you were so gracious and generous. I am going to use the money to shoot in the World Crossbow Championships in Portugal this summer and it will be a tremendous help in defraying some of the expenses as I do not get any help from anyone. I hope that I can represent all of you in a professional, honest, sports woman manner. Again, thank you. Patricia Copley top |
