Spring Turkey Hunt 2010
Ainsworth Nebraska
It was 2 days before Spring Turkey hunting ended here in Nebraska and I had been wanting my first bow kill like crazy! I had practiced up with the boys and i was ready. Two good friends of mine Ryan and Casey got up early and set out to get me a turkey. We set up the blind and started callin'. There wasn't much for answers but we saw a couple birds on the other side of the field, we waited and they never came, all we got was a hen. So we packed up the blind and drove to the next hunting spot and it didn't look too promising so we went back, and just our luck, right where we had our blind before was a big group of turkeys, if we would have sat tight Ii would have had my chance at that tom. So we set up the blind and a couple home-made decoys across the field from them and they started coming! It was so exciting! The hens were almost sitting in our lap! and then around the corner came that big tom! I just remember trying to be relaxed, I drew back my bow, and "Thump" perfect shot. We went an found him by a grove of trees, I was so excited, we got it all on film and he had a 9 3/4 inch beard and inch long spurs! Not bad for my first turkey. Thanks to Ryan and Casey and my Bear Odyssey I got my turkey! But I cant wait to get the new Mathews Passion and be one step above the rest!
Don't forget to Shoot Like A Girl!

My daughter Carrigan has been rifle hunting since she was 11 years old but decided this past year she wanted to try archery. She got her first bow for Christmas '09 and started shooting with her Dad. This is a photo of her first turkey, she got him with her bow 4-5-10.

My daughter, Carrigan got this 10 point buck in '07. She shot him with my .257 Roberts. She was 11 years old at the time and it was her first year hunting, needless to say she's hooked for life.

| Just got back from an amazing merriam turkey hunt in south dakota. Our first time hunting these beautiful birds. The ranch that we hunted on encompassed 18,000 acres of river bottom and wind breaks, perfect for maintaining the high number of birds that we encountered. These merriams were much larger and more vocal than our eastern turkeys in PA. We had all day action..What a great time. |

My very first archery buck after 3 yrs of close calls . What an adrenaline rush!! |

An awesome wilderness hunt in idaho with my father in 2008 ended with this magnificent 6x6 taken with my .300 Winchester Short Magnum . My first elk hunt was an amazing experience and I am looking forward to attempting to hunt another with my bow. |

Glad to find your site since joining AT. I'm new to archery, saving my pennies for that Mathews Passion I'm dreaming of. My husband got me started hunting a few years back, I shoot a .257 Roberts with a custom stock that my Dad made for me! This is a photo of my '09 buck. He's a 9 pointer and I was so excited to get him. I can't wait to post my first archery deer hopefully this year. Thanks for the site it's great to have something for us Ladies!

Well, he isn't a MONSTA but he is a trophy to me! A small 6, my first deer, my first buck. I began hunting in 2008 and shot & lost a nice 10 pt. buck in December 08. This season I had hunted hard and let many walk, waiting for one that had a rack, hoping for more than just a spike. My brother and I had been hunting stands for several mornings and we had seen deer but no shooters; we couldn't shoot does from these particular stands on our club lease. On the morning of January 2, 2010, deer were moving--I had seen a buttonhead and a cownhorn spike. About 8:45, 8 does walked out and crossed the right of way that we walked in on; I eased my rifle out the window of the stand and scoped them out. I was working on a text message to my brother who was sitting in a stand about 600 yards away when I looked out the window and there he stood! He was about 75 yards away and looking down the right-of-way where the does had just crossed. His butt was to me and I could see his horns shining. I could see that he had 3 pts. on each side. I flipped the safety off my Remington Model 700 .270 and had the crosshairs on him; he finally turned and presented a shot. Deep breath, squeezed the trigger and "CLICK". Oh NO!. He picked up his head and looked directly at me. My heart was pounding and I eased my hand up, slid the bolt back & chambered a round. He continued to just stand there looking directly at me. He shook his tail, took another step, dropped his head, presented an even better shot and took his last bite of grass. BOOM! He dropped, one shot. My brothers were so proud of me. This was a special deer because the .270 belonged to our father who passed away in June '06. I've purchased a Matthews Mission and have been practicing. With a bit of luck, I'll have one with my bow this fall. Thanks for giving women a place to post their hunting successes!

TEN POINT
by Shanna Hillis, November 10, 2009
Well here is my best kill to date, bow or otherwise!!!

He came in walking away from me, I thought for sure he was just gonna cruise on through. I had some Trophy Blend Scent Estrous put out around my stand and also had the stick rolled out sitting on a log maybe 10 yards from my stand. He came strolling through and got a whiff of something and turned and I was hoping was gonna present about a 30 yard shot. I was standing and drew my bow while he was behind a tree and when he came out he stopped and turned and started heading straight towards me!!! There I stood at full draw, it seems like I was like that for a minute!!! He finally turned to his left and presented me with a 20 yard shot, my arrow went in his right side in what I will say was the high 12 ring and traveled lenghtwise of his body and exited on the left side behind his ribs. He jumped and ran about 40 yards and stopped, he stood there for what seemed like forever then he jumped again and went crashing through the woods. I heard him crash one final time and he was maybe 60 yards from my tree!!!
I waited about 20 long minutes and climbed down and retrieved my arrow and tracked him up. I was so suprised to see that he was a 10 point, I had no idea what he was when I shot him.
This buck is going on the wall for sure, I can't wait to get him back from the processor so I can hold him again before he goes off the taxidermist!!!
Never give up, I have almost given up several times, it is hard to get up early and go sit in a tree all day. It is even hard to get up off the couch in the afternoons and go but as my husband says...'must be present to win.' I have to thank my husband 110% for getting me into archery and hunting. He has supported me and stood up to his friends and defended me when noone else would. He says that I am his favorite hunting partner.
I hope that anyone that wants to get into hunting and archery has the chance to try it. Practice makes perfect and only you can get to the level you want to be.
Kally Marriott's First Deer

This is my fiance Kally's first deer. Taken opening morning 2007 near Breckenridge, TX. The gun is a Savage 270 left hand that I fixed up for her with some Dura-Coat. I just found your website. Can't wait to show her when she gets home. Since she's become interested in shooting and hunting, we have never been closer. - David
