Women of Inspiration
in Shooting Sports
Shoot Like a Girl is running a series of articles about women who inspire us to participate in shooting sports. These women have achieved, or are in the process of achieving, legacy status in the industry. We are thrilled to present articles about them that can inspire more women to participate in shooting sports with confidence! We are going to focus on the Pro-Staff shooters for Hunter Safety System, a company dedicated to ensuring the safety of all of us tree stand hunters. When picking our first woman of inspiration, I looked at the long list of distinguished ladies, and decided who better to be our first featured Woman of Inspiration than Michele Eichler, the CEO of Muzzy Products Corp.

2012 VIEW
To all of our Shoot Like A Girl Family 2011 has come to a successful conclusion, what a year with many highs! The biggest high was the selection of Shoot Like A Girl President, Karen Butler as one of Outdoor Life Magazines 25 Leaders In Hunting, Fishing & Conservation, The list of honorees for the year included David Allen, President of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, (a 2012 Shoot Like A Girl corporate sponsor), Jason Hairston, founder of Sitka Clothing, and Dick Kirby, founder of Quaker Boy Game Calls. This was an honor received due to your continuing support. It shows that women continue to grow as a significant influence in the outdoor industry. Since 2009 we put over 1500 women through the Test Flights. Shoot Like A Girl Test Flights are designed to give women the opportunity to shoot bows from top manufacturers in draw lengths and weights that fit the average gal. This is a once in a life time opportunity, and thankfully ladies are taking advantage of it. We have had the pleasure of helping women choose the bow that is right for them. We have had many confirmed bow sales, and have helped increase the number of ladies who are hunting. This is significant as studies show that households with a hunting/shooting female parent 50% of the daughters and 63% of the sons will become hunters/shooters, proving once again how influential women are to the continued health of our hunting and shooting heritage.
The year 2012 is shaping up to be even bigger, our Test Flight lineup includes bows from BowTech, Hoyt, Limbsaver, Mathews, and PSE!
Shoot Like A Girl will continue to support research in the hunt for a cure for breast cancer. We are excited and proud to announce we will be partnering with The Pink Arrow Project this year. In 2011, you helped Shoot Like A Girl raise over $9,000 for Breast Cancer Research through your participation in the Shoot For The Girls, mail in tournament! A big thank you to all who participated and the clubs and organizations who promoted the events.
At this time Shoot Like A Girl will be attending 10 events in 2012. With the help of our corporate sponsors we will be attending events across the country including the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation National Elk Camp in Las Vegas, NV and the National Wild Turkey Federation Show in Nashville, TN! We are very selective in who we partner with as corporate sponsors, and pleased that we are now partnered with Hunter Safety System, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Leupold, Game Plan Gear, BowTech, Hoyt Archery, LimbSaver, Smith Optics Elite, Mathews, PSE, Victory Archery, Just For Does, ThermaCell, Waffle House, Prois, Haley Vines, Bohning, Muzzy, Gerbings Heated Clothing, Mossy Oak and ASA. Corporations who wish to join us in our effort to empower more women to participate in shooting sports should contact us with our contact form. So 2012 is shaping up to be a very exciting year and Shoot Like A Girl is looking forward to seeing all of you out at the shows and the shoots. Thank you for all you have done to increase the presence of women in the outdoors. Stay safe, keep your eye on the target and Shoot Like A Girl!
Regards, Karen!
2010 I Shoot for the Girls™ Archery Tournament A Success!!
Archers raise $4,630 for the National Breast Cancer through their “I Shoot for the Girls™” Charity Mail in Archery Shoot hosted by Shoot Like A Girl
Shoot Like A Girl is thrilled to announce that archers across the United States raised $4,630 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to date, and expect to surpass $5,000 when the final contributions arrive. Eleven Archery Clubs, Business and Leagues and ten individuals participated with a total of 284 archers competing in this first ever “I Shoot for the Girls” tournament. “This was our first year to host the tournament, and we received great feedback. Everyone has asked us to make it an annual event, and we will, but we will extend the time to shoot to accommodate more archers!” said Karen Butler, the President of Shoot Like A Girl.
The winners for the tournament receive a dozen Victory Pink Arrow Project Arrows, donated graciously by Victory Arrows. In the Men’s Division, the winner is John Pero, with a score of 380, from the Wa-Xo-Be Archers; the Women’s Division winner is Debby Hammock, with a score of 335 from Pellegrino’s Archery Hut; and the Youth Division winner is Dakota Hoagland, with a score of 330 from Vic’s Archery. Contestants shot from 18 meters on a target consisting of three large breast cancer ribbons and one small bonus ribbon. There were ten 10 rounds, for a total max score of 400 points.

OUR VISION
Shoot Like A Girl (SLG², Inc) is a company dedicated to empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence. We do that in two ways - through service and sales. With the help of our corporate sponsors and contributing bow manufacturers, we travel around the country to provide women a once in a lifetime opportunity to try multiple bows in draw weights and lengths that fit them. We also provide an educational service on this web site, with information about shooting sports, and a women friendly forum. Our sales (also a service) is that we combine products that enhance women’s abilities to participate in shooting sports, with a huge focus on one stop shopping for hunting clothing specifically designed to fit women. The clothes are offered at competitive pricing, and allow women to side by side compare products. All of these services and shopping opportunities help us reach our goal of empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence! |
